DEFINITION OF REBUKE: to scold or reprimand (someone) a reprimand or scolding : to criticize sharply : reprimand b: to serve as a rebuke to : to turn back or keep down : check
DO NOT TRY AND TELL ME THAT REBUKING ERROR IS NOT LOVING, WE REBUKE OUR OWN CHILDREN BECAUSE WE LOVE THEM, HOW MUCH MORE SHOULD WE LOVE THE PEOPLE OF GOD THAT HE HAS ENTRUSTED US WITH. I THINK THOSE WHO SAY THAT THE CHURCH HAS BECOME EFFEMINATE, ARE CORRECT IN THIS AREA.
PAUL AND JOHN BOTH NAMED NAMES OF FALSE TEACHERS. JESUS SAID DIRECTLY TO THE SPIRITUAL LEADERS IN THE JEWISH FAITH WITH ALL AROUND THAT THEY MADE THOSE THEY PROSELYTIZED TWICE A SON OF HELL THAN THEY WERE.
JESUS SHARPLY REBUKED THOSE WHO SAID THEY KNEW GOD.
Matthew 23:15 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, HYPOCRITES! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, YOU MAKE HIM TWICE AS MUCH A SON OF HELL AS YOURSELVES.
definition of proselyte : a new convert (as to a faith or cause)
Paul also rebuked error.
Galatians 2:14
14 But WHEN I SAW THAT THEY WERE NOT STRAIGHTFORWARD about THE TRUTH OF THE GOSPEL,
(TAKE NOTICE OF PAUL REBUKING, CORRECTING PETER IN FRONT OF ALL WHO WERE PRESENT THERE, I am especially noting this to those who say you are supposed to privately take ministers aside to correct them)
I SAID TO PETER “”BEFORE THEM ALL,”" “If you, being a Jew, live in the manner of Gentiles and not as the Jews, why do you compel Gentiles to live as Jews.
ELDERS, MINISTERS SHOULD TEACH WHO THEY HAVE BEEN ENTRUSTED BY GOD WITH TO CONTINUALLY STUDY THE SCRIPTURES, WHICH MAKES THEM WISE FOR SALVATION.
Paul instructing Timothy
2 Timothy 3
10 But you have carefully followed my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, love, perseverance, 11 persecutions, afflictions, which happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra—what persecutions I endured. And out of them all the Lord delivered me.
12 Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.
13 But EVIL MEN AND IMPOSTORS will GROW WORSE and WORSE, DECEIVING and BEING DECEIVED.
14 But YOU MUST CONTINUE IN THE THINGS WHICH YOU HAVE LEARNED and been assured of, KNOWING FROM WHOM YOU HAVE LEARNED THEM,
15 and that “”"FROM CHILDHOOD you HAVE KNOWN THE HOLY SCRIPTURES,”"” which “”"ARE ABLE to MAKE YOU WISE for SALVATION THROUGH FAITH”"” which is in CHRIST JESUS.
In verse 16 PAUL TEACHES THAT ALL SCRIPTURE IS PROFITABLE FOR TEACHING, REPROOF, CORRECTING, INSTRUCTING IN RIGHTEOUSNESS SO THAT GOD’S PEOPLE WILL BE COMPLETE AND THOROUGHLY EQUIPPED FOR BEARING FRUIT THAT HONORS GOD,
16 ALL SCRIPTURE is given BY INSPIRATION OF GOD, and IS PROFITABLE FOR DOCTRINE, for REPROOF, for CORRECTION, for INSTRUCTION IN RIGHTEOUSNESS, 17 that THE MAN OF GOD MAY BE COMPLETE, thoroughly EQUIPPED FOR EVERY GOOD WORK.
1 Timothy 5:19-21
19 Do not receive an accusation against an elder “”EXCEPT”" FROM TWO OR THREE WITNESSES.
20 THOSE “”"WHO ARE SINNING “”REBUKE”" in THE PRESENCE OF ALL,”"” that THE REST ALSO MAY FEAR.
21 I charge you before God and the Lord Jesus Christ and the elect angels that you “”"OBSERVE THESE THINGS WITHOUT PREJUDICE,”"” doing NOTHING WITH PARTIALITY.
2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, “REBUKE,”" exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.
3 For THE TIME WILL COME WHEN THEY WILL NOT ENDURE SOUND DOCTRINE, BUT ACCORDING TO THEIR OWN DESIRES,BECAUSE THEY HAVE ITCHING EARS, “”THEY”" WILL HEAP UP “”FOR THEMSELVES”" TEACHERS;
4 and “”THEY WILL TURN THEIR EARS AWAY FROM THE TRUTH,”" and “”BE TURNED ASIDE TO FABLES.”"”
5 But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.
Titus 1:12-14
12One of themselves, even a prophet of their own, said, the Cretians are always liars, evil beasts, slow bellies.
13 This witness is true. Wherefore “”"REBUKE THEM SHARPLY,”"”
that “”"THEY MAY BE SOUND IN THE FAITH;”"”
14 NOT GIVING HEED TO JEWISH FABLES, and “”"COMMANDMENTS OF MEN,”"” that “”TURN FROM THE TRUTH.”"
Paul says to rebuke them sharply so “”" they can be sound in the faith.”"‘ If rebuking sharply keeps people sound in the faith, than those who have been entrusted with God’s people have not been doing their jobs of rebuking sharply!!!!
Titus 2
11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,
12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age,
13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,
14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works.
15 Speak these things, exhort, and “”"REBUKE WITH ALL AUTHORITY.”"” Let no one despise you.
AS ELDERS, MINISTERS, WE ARE SUPPOSED TO MARK THOSE WHO TEACH FALSE DOCTRINE, SO THAT THOSE GOD HAS ENTRUSTED US WITH, WILL AVOID THE FALSE TEACHERS.
I ALSO THINK WE SHOULD REVEAL IN SCRIPTURE WHERE THESE FALSE TEACHERS/PROPHETS ARE IN ERROR, SO TO EQUIP GOD’S PEOPLE.
Romans 16:17-18
17 Now I beseech you, brethren, MARK THEM which CAUSE DIVISIONS AND OFFENCES CONTRARY TO THE DOCTRINE WHICH YE HAVE LEARNED; and AVOID THEM.
18 For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.
Look how Romans 16:17-18 has been taken out of context so much, that the error has become traditionally embraced as truth. We don’t just stop at “mark them which cause divisions.” This phrase is often used to control any opposing view that someone may have. When in fact, this scripture is telling us to be aware of those people who are causing division by spreading false doctrines, and avoid them. Now this scripture can go hand in hand with:
1 Corinthians 5
9 I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people.
10 Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world.
11 But now I HAVE WRITTEN TO YOU NOT TO KEEP COMPANY WITH ANYONE NAMED A BROTHER, WHO IS SEXUALLY IMMORAL, OR COVETOUS, OR AN IDOLATER, OR A REVILER, OR A DRUNKARD, OR AN EXTORTIONER—NOT EVEN TO EAT WITH SUCH A PERSON.
12 For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? DO YOU NOT JUDGE THOSE WHO ARE INSIDE?
13 But THOSE WHO ARE OUTSIDE GOD JUDGES. Therefore “PUT AWAY FROM YOURSELVES THE EVIL PERSON.
1 Timothy 1:18-20
18 This charge I commit to you, son Timothy, according to the prophecies previously made concerning you, that by them you may wage the good warfare, 19 having faith and a good conscience,WHICH SOME HAVING REJECTED, CONCERNING THE FAITH HAVE SUFFERED SHIPWRECK, 20 of WHOM ARE HYMENAEUS and ALEXANDER, WHOM I DELIVERED TO SATAN THAT THEY MAY LEARN NOT TO BLASPHEME.
HOW FUNNY THAT IF PAUL WERE TEACHING IN THESE DAYS HE WOULD OFFEND MANY, AND PEOPLE WOULD ACCUSE HIM OF AT THE LEAST BEING “IN THE FLESH,”AND AT THE MOST BEING “IN THE WRONG SPIRIT,” WHEN HE WOULD SAY THAT HE DELIVERED CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS NAMED TO SATAN FOR A LESSON NOT TO BLASPHEME.
2 Timothy 4
14 ALEXANDER THE COPPERSMITH DID ME MUCH HARM. MAY THE LORD REPAY HIM ACCORDING TO HIS WORKS. 15 YOU ALSO MUST BEWARE OF HIM, for he has greatly resisted our words.
2 Timothy 2:16-18
16 But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness. 17 And their message will spread like cancer. HYMEENAEUS AND PHILETUS ARE OF THIS SORT, 18 who HAVE STRAYED CONCERNING THE TRUTH, saying THAT THE RESURRECTION IS ALREADY PAST; and THEY OVERTHROW THE FAITH OF SOME.
3RD John
9 I wrote to the church, BUT DIOTREPHES, WHO LOVES TO HAVE THE PREEMINENCE AMONG THEM, DOES NOT RECEIVE US. 10 Therefore, if I come, I WILL CALL TO MIND HIS DEEDS WHICH HE DOES, PRATING AGAINST US WITH MALICIOUS WORDS. And not content with that, he himself does not receive the brethren, and forbids those who wish to, putting them out of the church.
definition of prating: Talk foolishly or at tedious length about something.
The elders also got into heated disputes. But, no one ever accused them of being prideful, or lacking humility. Just because someone speaks in a soft voice does not mean they are humble, Nor does it mean a person speaking in a loud voice is prideful.
if a TRUE LOVING elder, minister rebukes sharply, corrects, or if they are trying to protect the purity of the scriptures and they get in a heated argument, does it mean that someone is not humble, nor does it mean that they are in the flesh, or in the wrong spirit.
Now if they get offended, it simply means they are not mature in the Lord, as they should be as ministers.
We are supposed to all have our forehead as flint, when it comes to not compromising the truth. And if we do not correct, or warn, or mark false teachers, coming from the base of love, to protect God’s people from ravenous wolves in sheeps clothing, then we could very well be required from God.
Ezekiel 33:6
But if the watchman sees the sword coming and DOES NOT BLOW THE TRUMPET, AND THE PEOPLE ARE NOT WARNED, and THE SWORD COMES and TAKES ANY PERSON FROM AMONG THEM,he is taken away in his iniquity; but HIS BLOOD I WILL REQUIRE AT THE WATCHMAN’S HAND.
WE ARE ALL CALLED TO BE WATCHMEN TO THE PEOPLE GOD HAS ENTRUSTED US WITH. FAMILY, CHURCH, NEIGHBORS, EMPLOYEES, EMPLOYERS,FRIENDS. WHOEVER GOD HAS GIVEN YOU INFLUENCE WITH, THEN YOU ARE A WATCHMEN.
TO INFLUENCE SOULS FOR JESUS IS SOMETHING WE NEED TO TAKE SERIOUSLY, IF WE TRULY LOVE THE PEOPLE AS WE SHOULD.
